Venezuelan visual artist Ricardo Pérez Quintero technique is assemblage medium.

During his studies to become an architect and urban designer he was first involved with art. In his work one can recognize the influence of Cornell, Duchamp, Nevelson, Magritte and Uruguayan constructivist Joaquin Torres Garcia.

This artist can bring together, in one piece, different creative mediums such as assemblage, sculpture and collage. Rescuing lost objects (ready made) RPQ, like a Tarot alchemist, transforms them into poetic objects and living objectual presences with no significative interventions.

His attractive and suggestive boxes elicit narrative, metaphorical and metaphysical readings from the spectator. Ever since Ricardo Pérez Quintero began exhibiting - in group and solo shows - people related to the art, architecture, music and journalism mediums have found and recognized the charm, poetics and rigor in his assemblages.

“Life is what happens while you are busy making other plans.”

I have been distracted collecting objects, which are time. I am the “Cool Hunter”, visiting cities, unusual places, antique stores and flea markets, enjoying deserted beaches where I look for objects brought by the sea, pieces of wood from a shipwreck, objects marked by the effect of erosion. I look for antique frames, toned wood, curios, miniatures, and mementos, among other things.

These elements, referring to artistic and contemporary art concepts, have given me a language to produce thematic assemblages. I seek to give the spectator a story, message or metaphor and share the fantasies these objects suggest to me.

On The Eege, a revelation

Discovering Ricardo Pérez Quintero’s works of art is a weird and pleasant surprise. We say “weird” not in the sense that it is strange or extravagant, but because it is not common, it is an extraordinary artistic experience… at the Trazos Sculpture Biennale  his piece : “Barco de Louise N” was the stellar work at the event.

Ricardo Pérez Quintero is a nostalgic dreamer who keeps and objectifies his dreams to save them as precious objects, as the classic treasure coffer of the pirates. These boxes are filled with memories, symbols, and allusions to veiled otherness. Functioning as storage for aesthetic experiences that come alive when looked at   and take us to the edge of a revelation that never happens and is left like a hidden reality of things.

ARQUITECTURA
